Riverside Park Greenhouse

The features of the new greenhouse have been designed to make it a comfortable space for people so that it can be a year round center for activities such as classes or other special events. In addition to providing a functioning greenhouse, a special emphasis was placed on making it an attractive centerpiece to the Riverside Park Gardens. The Friends and the city of Moline are continuing to work together to make this a real and lasting benefit to the citizens of Moline and the Quad Cities area.

The existing wood and plastic structure was removed leaving the existing knee wall and floor. Modifications were made to provide a foundation for the new greenhouse.

The new greenhouse is constructed of an aluminum frame with tempered glass glazing.

Double doors in the south end provide easy access.

The environment in the greenhouse is controlled using motor operated roof vents and a shade/heat retention cloth system.

Hot water fin tube heaters are used for heating the greenhouse.

Two speed fans are used for cooling. The fan system includes evaporative cooling to maintain comfortable greenhouse temperatures for year round activities.

Horizontal air flow fans will ensure air is always moving for a healthy growing environment.

All the environmental features are operated automatically by an electronic controller.

Evening activities in the greenhouse are now possible since it features general lighting indoors and outdoor security lighting.
