Ginnie's Butterfly Garden |
|
Ginnie's Butterfly Garden, located in Riverside Park, is planted with nectar and food plants selected to attract butterflies and other wildlife. The garden has been adopted through Moline's Adopt-a-Park program by Stephen Mueller. For more information please contact me at the e-mail address below. Thank you to the Boy Scouts and families of Troop 199, Bettendorf, for building the new fence around the garden and finishing the restoration of the pond. Gordon Mueller's Eagle Scout project in 2007 built the shorter portion of the fence. David Haberkorn's project in 2008 finished the fence by building the taller portion and restored the pond after over a decade of silt had been removed. The fence will provide an attractive backdrop and protect the garden and pond for years to come. Click for photos of the fence projects. Click for photos of butterflies and other wildlife. |

If you have any interest in helping out in the butterfly garden or any of the other gardens in Riverside Park, please contact me by e-mail at comm@friendsofriverside.org. Even a few hours here and there can make a big difference. The park is a great location for service projects both big and small.
Corrections or additional information on species identification can also be sent to that address. I am just a casual photographer and as space permits I would be happy to display photographs with personal (i.e. non-commercial) credits. I am interested in images taken in the garden where the species can be clearly identified.
There is also space on the web site for a Spanish translation of these pages if anyone would like to work with me on that.
